Adventures aboard Retriever
A boy and his boat
Every Journey Starts Somewhere
Retirement was always supposed to include more time on the water. Over time, the idea of having a house by the water became something a little different—a house that could actually move across it.
That idea eventually led me to sailing, to the search for the right boat, and finally to Retriever.
Since then, the journey has become about much more than owning a sailboat. It is about learning her systems, making her my own, preparing for longer voyages, and discovering where the next horizon might lead.
Meet Retriever
Retriever is a 2008 Beneteau Oceanis 40, a cruising sailboat that has become the center of this journey. She is large enough for extended cruising, manageable enough to sail without a large crew, and steadily being adapted for the way I want to use her.
Her story is still evolving as systems are repaired, upgraded, and refined for longer voyages ahead.
For the key facts, keep it simple:
Home Port: Norfolk, Virginiaph
Year: 2008
Model: Beneteau Oceanis 40
Layout: 2-cabin
Engine: Yanmar diesel
